General Year Information – 1967 Ford Mustang Facts
For the first time since its mid-1964 introduction the Mustang was significantly changed. The styling was similar to the original in its theme, but everything was larger, not in wheelbase but in overall width. The grille featured a larger opening. The feature lines on the side led to a larger simulated scoop. The taillights took the form of three individual vertical lenses on each side of a concave indentation panel, with a centrally located gas cap.
Standard equipment included all Ford Motor Co. safety features, plus front bucket seats; full carpeting; floor-mounted shift; vinyl interior trim; heater; wheel covers; and cigarette lighter. The fastback came with wheel covers; special emblems; and rocker panel moldings. There were five engine choices ranging from a 120 hp 200 CID six to a 320 hp 390 CID V-8. New options available included the Select-Shift Cruise-O-Matic previously featured on the Fairlane GT.
Historical Notes
The 1967 Mustang was introduced Sept. 30, 1966. Model year output peaked at 472,121 units. Dealer sales totaled 377,827 units, a 31.2 percent decline due to increased competition in the sports/personal car market, plus a strike in the final business quarter. About seven percent of all 1967 Mustangs had four-speed manual transmissions; 98 percent had bucket seats; nearly 15 percent had vinyl tops and about 16 percent had air conditioning. Dual exhausts were found on only about 25,000 cars.
1967 Hi-Po V-8 Camshaft Change
To be more competitive in SCCA Trans Am racing, Ford changed the camshaft from the original 271 Hi-Po to the Shelby camshaft and reported the change to the AMA. The new specs were: Duration: Intake: 310 degrees, Exhaust: 310 degrees, Lift: (Intake) 0.471″ @ .020″ lash (Exhaust) 0.4757 @ .020″ lash. Overlap 82 degrees. Mechanical lifters.
