How to Change the carpet on the back folding decks on the fastbacks or Mustangs with the option.

What you will need:

  • Adhesive sprate (found at hardware stores like Harbor Freight
  • Scotch pad
  • Phillips (lots of them so use a screw gun)
  • Share box cutter
  • Steel whool pads (get the polish, the finish pads.

Takes lots of pictures when your removing the decks so its easier to go back on and your not guessing.

The carpet you buy comes in 4 pieces all the same size. These will fit all even the one that coverers the trunk. If you screw one up then you have to buy all 4 again.

Unscrew all the chrome pieces and set them how they came off.

The old carpet comes off very easy, Use the scotch pad to get the glue at least the high spots because not all the glue is going to come up and it doesnt matter it will not show up anyways. Wipe off the residue.

Take your first piece and lay it on a service you can set the new piece of bottom and cut the piece exact. Dont worry if your off a1/4 of an inch because the chrome piece will cover it.

lay it out on the deck and get it where you want it, then life up about 8 inches on one side and spray the adhesive, i made two passes and be sure to get the edges then make sure your other end is still good and lay the 8 inches of carpet on and gently push it down. Now forht rest I come from the other side and I roll it up like carpet until i see about 1 inch of glue and i spray another 10 or so inches and roll the crapet over gentle pushing down. The glue set ups fast. I do this until its all covered. If you have some carpet hanging over the edge on anyside cut that off or it till push the car put into a buble when you put the crhome back on.

Clean the crhome with whoole at anytime you pleasel it make a hugh difference on mine.

give the glue time to set up abotut 10 minutes then start putting the chrome and pieces back on. Several pieces are more than chrome, take photos of them so you know how they go on.]

Remember if you mess up you can always lift up part of spray more adheive. Its always fixable.
