General Year Information – 1968 Ford Mustang Facts
The 1968 Ford Mustang was introduced in September 1967. The 1968 Mustang continued to use the same body shell introduced the previous year, with minor trim changes. The Mustang emblem appeared to float in the center of the grille, with no horizontal or vertical bars attached to the emblem. Also, the side scoop had much cleaner chrome trim than the previous year, with no horizontal stripes connected to it. Side marker lights and other new federally mandated safety features were required on all Mustangs built this year.

The 427-powered Mustang was capable of moving from 0-60 mph in around six seconds. The price for this motor was $775 above that of the base Mustang V-8. The 427 was available early in the year, but rarely installed, as the Cobra Jet could match it and cost $500 less. 428 CJ V-8s were installed in 2,854 Mustangs in this model year.

Historical Notes
