The final year of the Mustang II’s was a big one. The King Cobra became available. It was not an actual new model it was an option. It was limited edition with information says 4,313 but my Marti Report for my King Cobra shows slightly more produced. This could be because of test cars Ford made and other reasons which may have never been sold to the public. I do not have an answer for that yet. It was basically a Cobra II with King Cobra options. It featured a deep air-dam and a spoiler. The most unique thing is the decals which rivaled the Pontiac Trans Am. The hood had a Cobra Snake, the side had a the words King Cobra as well as on the back of the car. You could only get the same 302 V8 and option of automatic and 4-speed transmission. The T-tops were an option as well for the KC. The option for the KC cost $1,277 for the single option as you can add more options just like the other models can. The paint options were unique as well especially the orange or the black with orange decals.
The Cobra II graphics changed a little with the large letters of Cobra on the door instead of Cobra II. This was to emulate the Shelby GT-350 look. The Cobra’s standard motor was the small 2.3L four-cylinder but more popular were the 2.8L V6 and the 5.0L V8.
