I bought this as a parts car as it was being sold as basic cobra but when I got it home the buck tag said KC and I ordered a Marti Report for it and sure enough I landed a 1 of 4600 King Cobras every ordered as options for the single year of 1978.
The interior needs to be detailed and it the middle console between the seats needs replaced. The carpet needs a thorough cleaning with a rentable shampoo Machine and so far, the seats seem to be like that will be fine as I am not making this into a show car. I will restore it and sell when I am finished and focus and keep my Black one.
The engine and the engine bay have everything in it which is rare to find. The motor will need to come out to rebuild it and paint the engine bay. They do not make the air cleaner assemblies right now so you would be lucky to find one under $350.
With a professional detail the inteior will be fine. The only thing to fix is to buy 4 new tires, complete the body work, rebuild the motor and have it painted. I paid 2K for it and conditions 1-4 with 4 being a show car worth 40K, #2 is for excellent condition worth 33K and should be able to regional shows. # 3 and 4 respectively are worth 22.9K and 11.5. I am going to make this into a 2 but I do not expect toget 22 out of but more realistically I should be able to get 15-18K. That will make me a nice profit as I do not need an automatic car when I have my black KC.
There are air filer assemblies are so rare if you can find one on ebay they wont about 1200 dollars. One of mine two KC came with in and its gong to be restored to original.
Good news is both of the cars will be put in our shop now that we were able to make room.
All it took was some spray that will eat away spray paint. These are expensive and I wanted them original which is aluminum. I put cleaner on them and shape them to make them perfect. It will go on this KC. As the other KC will be a 4 barrel and its one I am keeping. A fine sand paper will make them look even better you just need to follow the grain, 100 sandpaper is what I was told.
Parts have been ordered.
I also ordered a new MSD Ignition Blaster 2. I believe the car will start with fresh gas. Im still going to rebuild the motor, as I you can see I went with a Holley two barrel as I want t keep this stock as I am selling it as stock.
